Problem
There are times when IBM® WebSphere® Application Server is installed on a machine on which the Operating System is using one language (e.g., Canadian French), and it is appropriate for WebSphere to be using US English.

Cause
By default, the Java Virtual Machine used by Application Server will use the current Operating System locale to determine the language to be used when messages are to be written to log and trace files.

Solution
Add the following settings for your Application Server arguments

-Duser.language=<Value> -Duser.region=<Value>

For example, to have the JVM use US English, these would be:

-Duser.language=en -Duser.region=US
